An international, technology-neutral framework for real, measurable, documented and appropriately verified climate action results and Carbon Units.
The Quality Carbon Credit Standard™ – Framework is a technology-neutral professional framework that defines the requirements under which a climate action result may serve as the basis for creating a Carbon Unit.
A Carbon Unit may be created only on the basis of a real, measurable, documented and appropriately verified Climate Action Result.
Eligibility is determined not by the technology or project category itself, but by the demonstrable climate action result it creates.
The primary purpose of the Framework is to safeguard the reality, measurability, additionality, verifiability and traceability of results.
The Framework clearly distinguishes the project, the climate action activity, the Climate Action Result, MRV, independent verification, registry-side assessment and the Carbon Unit.
The baseline must be data-driven, documented, reproducible and auditable, and updated as necessary.
Additionality is a multidimensional, dynamic and data-driven requirement that also considers the financial, regulatory, market, social and ecological context.
The Climate Action Result must be supported by a comprehensive Monitoring, Reporting and Verification system and verification by an independent third party.
The Carbon Unit must be clearly traceable to the project, the Climate Action Result, the accounting period, the verification and its unique registry identifier.
The Framework separately addresses the risks of double issuance, double claiming, double use and other forms of double counting.
The activity underlying a Carbon Unit must be aligned with long-term decarbonization and the transition to net zero.
A Carbon Unit is neither the project itself nor the result of verification. A Carbon Unit is the result of recognizing, registering and uniquely identifying an appropriately verified Climate Action Result in the OurOffset registry.
A real, measurable, documented and quantifiable climate action result.
A result and documentation supported by a Monitoring, Reporting and Verification system.
Independent third-party verification of submitted claims and the documentation supporting them.
OurOffset assesses the submitted evidence in accordance with its registry-side procedures.
A uniquely identified registry unit created on the basis of a verified Climate Action Result.
The Quality Carbon Credit Standard™ is not designed to maximize the number of carbon credits, but to safeguard the integrity of the real and demonstrable climate action results underlying them.
Material uncertainty must be identified and addressed using an appropriate conservative approach so that the Climate Action Result is not overstated.
For removal-type results, permanence, reversal risks, monitoring and corrective measures applicable in the event of reversal must be assessed.
Material emissions shifted outside the project boundary must be identified and, where necessary, accounted for in quantifying the Climate Action Result.
Material social and environmental risks must be identified and appropriately managed. Co-benefits must be measurable and documentable.
Carbon and climate claims made using a Carbon Unit must be truthful, accurate, appropriately documented and non-misleading.
The Framework evolves through a controlled and documented change-management process and must be reviewed at least annually.
2026 revised and updated edition · International scope · OurOffset Nonprofit LLC
The 2026 revision places particular emphasis on modern additionality, dynamic baselines, the full lifecycle of the Carbon Unit, detailed treatment of double counting, safeguards requirements, net-zero transition alignment, registry transparency, permanence of removal-type results and claims integrity.
